VU University and the VU University Medical Center have identified cancer research as one of their core research areas. The VU University Medical Center’s Cancer Center Amsterdam (CCA) works in close collaboration with international and national centers of excellence in the area of Oncology, such as the Dutch Cancer Institute (NKI) and Academic Medical Center (AMC). The Master Oncology aims to transfer the unique combination of translational Oncology research to the next generation of students. You will be trained in state-of-the-art techniques in cancer research and therapy in a challenging environment by experts in the field. You will become a MSc in Oncology with in depth knowledge, attitudes and skills in the field of cancer research. This includes the development, execution, organization and evaluation of scientific research.

From bench to bedside

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide and the incidence keeps rising due to aging of the population. This Master is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms behind growth of cancer cells, the effect this disease has on a patient’s life and the influences of risk factors. During this Master, you will learn all about the pathways involved in cancer onset and development and possible targets for treatment.
