Step 1: Do I want to do something about this complaint?

The first thing you need to weigh up is whether you consider the incident of sufficient importance to give more thought to or even take action on it. You or your environment may not always find your reasoning logical and the reverse may also be the case, when everyone insists: “You can’t let this rest, you can’t let them do this to you!”, while you yourself may not see what the problem is, for whatever reason.

So what should you do if it is clear to you that certain behaviour, treatment or neglect involving a member of the university staff, be it a lecturer, a secretary, an educational institution staff member, or other staff member, is sufficient grounds to register a complaint?
